Music on God’s Highway

Originally plucked from five different choirs and born out of a desire to uplift the Catholic community through music, CANTO CINCO (C5) was formed in the spirit of service in 2004.

We members of C5, mainly through our communal singing, desire to make God present to the people we come in contact with. Our group aims to be Christ-centered through spiritual activities such as the liturgy, prayer sessions, recollections and retreats.

Our choir seeks to be competent in providing music to our communities. We endeavor to be committed to service, and to be creative in delivering God’s love through liturgical music to the hearts of people.

As the newest addition to the Jesuit Music Ministry, we take our commitment and service one step further by bringing our music to underprivileged parishes and sharing our knowledge of Eucharistic singing through liturgical seminars. We sing for Sunday masses at the Parish of the Holy Sacrifice in UP Diliman and other Jesuit events and functions.

VICTOR [Vik-tor] (noun) — "conqueror."

Sa lahat ng aking mga naging kaibigan, si Victor na ata ang nagmimistulang Superman. Ewan ko nga ba kung napapagod itong batang ‘to. Ang dami daming ginagawa ngunit parang relax lang, kayang kaya, “conqueror” nga. Isa siya sa aming mga BOY T (boy tigasin and boy tsuper among others). Siya ang aming dakilang drayber, kargador at taga-dum,dump,dum. Laging maaasahan. Laging nanjan pag kailangan ang tulong nya. Pero kung akala ninyo nagpapaka-BUSY itong si Vic, you’re wrong. Medyo carefree din siya. Aba e, you will often spot him at Timezone playing anything and everything he gets his eyes on. Kahit pala paglalaro kinacareer din.. hehe. Kakaiba talaga. But beneath this very sturdy character lies a softie. Isang matalik na kaibigan, karamay at ka-date (lalo na pag walang kalambingan sa Valentines..hehe..peace Vic). Sobrang comfy kasama itong si Vic, at hinding hindi ka mabobored kc panay kwento ito tungkol sa mga drama nya sa buhay.. madaldal in short, but in a good way..hehe. Papasa na sa Maalaala Mo Kaya ang mala-telenobelang buhay nya. Pero more than that, sobrang proud ako kay Vic. This person has indeed “conquered” a lot in his life, lalo na sa larangan ng pag-ibig. Kakaiba ito. Patuloy na nagmamahal sa likod ng lahat ng pagsubok na nadaan.J 

So Vic, kahit super duper late na itong greeting, BELATED HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY pa rin sa‎’yo!!! May you “conquer” all of life’s challenges and reign VICTORious.

Pangalan pa lang guwapo nah! Naku!ingat kayo kay kuya aldo, alam ba ninyo na nung kasalukuyang guro at nasa admin pa siya sa mataas na paaralan ng UST ay makikita ninyo siya na may nilalambing na kolehiyala na napag-alaman na kumukuha ng kursong pilosopiya?akala mo kagalang-galang ngunit…..NAPAKALAMBING lamang pala…haha!!siyempre ako naman yung nalalambing at nangyayakap sa kanya. e sa gandang lalaki ba naman tumulo na lang ang laway ng iba sa inggit sakin! haayyy…bakit ang mga kilala ko na dominicano malalambing?hmmm…soon to be heswita na nga pala si kuya aldo. Yung dalawang bata sa picture?huwag kayo magpanic…those were his pamangkins. I visited his blog earlier and i saw that piture, one of the best picture of him that ive ever seen. He looks very-very happy.

May mga nagsasabi na strikto daw siya sa silid aralan nung nagtuturo pa siya. Kagalang-galang nga naman kung ganoon ngunit tunay naman na mabait at kagaya nga ng nasabi ko, napaka-lambing at may itinatagong kakulitan. Isa din siyang gifted child, marunong tumugtog, magaling kumanta, kompositor, nagaareglo ng mga kanta, at talaga nga naman na naguumapaw sa katalinuhan…akalain mo ba naman na hakutin ang medalya nung siya ay magtapos ng hayskul?!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Mr. Noel Cruz!! Noel Cruz is one of our Divohs! Beware Martin Nievera and Piolo Pascual(?), eto na ang isa sa magagaling naming tenor, ang all time favorite taga-kanta ng The Promise sa mga weddings at kung anu-ano pah! When you hear him sing, eto the promise, mai-in-love ka! Akala ninyo pagkanta lang siya magaling? ENNGGGG!!!mali ka dyan becasue he’s so blessed that Kuya Jes didn’t just give him the talent to sing but also the talent to draw, paint, and anything in between. He is a true artist. Kaya naman bagay na bagay ang kinukuha at kasalukuyang tinatapos na kurso, ang paga-arkitekto. He’s currently finishing his thesis. kaya mo yan Noel!!

I’ve known Noel and has been my friend since highschool and Im telling you, this guy really is a good person. He is sweet and when you’re a friend, friend ka talaga. Mahal ka niya talaga at kayang-kaya niya ito sabihin ng walang pag-aalinlangan dahil yun ang totoo. Medyo layas din tong kaibigan namin na ito eh kaya konting yaya, pupunta din yan. Hehe!

Bukod sa pagiging arkitekto, may iba pa siyang nais na gawin ngunit wala pa siguro sa tamang panahon kaya hintay-hintay muna tayo.

Baka natatanong ninyo kung saan nanggaling ang crinkles na tawag namin sa kanya. iyan po ay nanggaling sa aming mahal na coordinator na si Tricia.nagmula sa isang joke na "bakit di pwede mag-powder si Noel? kasi magmumukha siyang crinkles!" tingnan na lamang po ninyo ang litrato at maarok na siguro ninyo kung bakit.

E ang Peri? wag na yan..mahabang kwento yan!!

Jesuit Communications invites you to watch a movie made for television by Ms. Marilou Diaz-Abaya which airs on ABS-CBN Channel 2 and TFC1 (North America) on December 18 at 10:30pm and 7:30pm (pacific time), respectively. This TV-movie will also air on TFC4 (Asia-Pacific & Australia) on December 17, at 10:40pm (Singapore time).

After ordination as a deacon, he is sent to his hometown to assist in the parish and gain pastoral experience as a way of preparing for his ordination to the priesthood. There he meets Fr. Salvador Bautista (Noel Trinidad), 65, fluent in Latin and Italian, a product of the “old school.” Ordained just as the reforms of the Second Vatican Council were launched, Fr. Doy had served in several parishes before being assigned to the rural Parish of Santiago Apostol the past five years. 

MAGING AKIN MULI accompanies Junjun on his journey to the priesthood. At Santiago  Apostol, he encounters the complexities of life for his fellow pilgrims in the parish —a generous but demanding benefactor, a young lady (Missy Maramara) in distress, a couple whose son (Ronnie Lazaro) is on death row. The lives of these people enrich his own, but also challenge his vocation to be good and holy, to belong to God.  The film explores the tension between human freedom, what people decide to do with their lives, and divine wisdom, what God asks of each person.

I remember the first i saw her during practice..I thought she was a snob of some sort..:)labshu!

but how very very wrong i was indeed…

All i can say is there is so much more to her than meets the eye.

Jett is a rare jem.

A beautiful and one of a kind star who prefers to be within everyone’s reach.

Extremely talented without even knowing just how much.

Her songs always seem to come from the deepest recesses of her being…

soothing and quieting the hearts of those who are blessed enough to hear her.

She appreciates and finds joy in the simplest of things.

Empathizes well with other people.

Very thoughtful and sweet..

Tends to spread herself too thin because of this sometimes…you don’t always have to jett..

She has the most beautiful set of lashes and almond eyes

Thank you for sharing yourself with us jetty..you add so much flavor to our group. We may not be as spectacular a singing group as your other affiliations…but as i always say…you always have us to come home to..

you are family to us. You are special to us and we love you.

These words speak of how powerful liturgical music can be in moving one’s soul.
And it is the same power we felt in the BAYAN UMAWIT concert held on August 19-20, 2005 at the AFP Theater participated by Jesuit Music Ministry choirs, including CANTO CINCO. The concert will be aired on IBC 13 on Wednesday, NOVEMBER 23, at 8:00 in the evening.

This event was more than a concert; it was indeed a celebration –

celebrating 40 years of Philippine liturgical music after Vatican II;
celebrating God’s movement in the lives of many Filipinos;                           celebrating God in each of us.

Mga Kaibigan at kapanalig…sa darating na linggo ay ipagdiriwang natin ang Kristong Hari. Ito ay isang napakahalaga at engrandeng pagdiriwang ng yukaristiya sa ating mga Katoliko. Kaya sa Linggo, ika-20 ng Nobyembre, 11:00 ng umaga sa U.P. Chapel ay samahan po ninyo kami sa pagsalubong sa ating Kristong Hari!!

Hindi ko malaman kung ano na nga ba ang dahilan ng pagbansag sa babaeng ito bilang "Ching" ng grupo. Basta isang gabi, "Ching" na lahat ang tawag sa kanya. Siguro’y dahil sa kanyang singkit na mga matang halos di mo na makita ‘pag siya’y nagbubungisngis… Maaari ring dahil sa kanyang kakaibang talentong magsalita ng intsik kahit wala naman talagang ibig sabihin ang lahat ng kanyang binigkas… Pwede ring dahil sa ‘pag masilyan mo lang siya, kahit na ba’t ikaw ay pagod, malungkot o bugnutin, makakalimutan mo ang lahat dahil mapapa-"Ching!" ka sa saya… Magbabago agad ang iyong mood. Tipong parang… "Ching!" Dapat masaya na ako dahil andiyan na si Anne…

Ganun… Ganun ang effect mo sa aming lahat. At dahil diyan maraming salamat. Malaki ang naitutulong mo sa grupo. Maraming salamat sa pagpapasaya sa aming lahat… sa pag-imbento ng mga lyrics sa ating mga kanta…("Petron-petron gumising…" "Maxdan natin ang sinag ng tala…" "Church of Christ…" Hehe.)… sa pagluto at pagpapakain ng napakasarap na burrito… sa pag-ayos ng mga pyesa, mag-organize ng makabuluhang recollection, caroling, kasal at kung anu-ano pa… Maraming maraming salamat, Ching. Isa kang inspirasyon sa aming lahat… Seksi pa! Hehe…

Si Kuya Rey Malipot…Kung si Ate Roma ang diva, aba siyempre dapat may divo din at yan ay ang mahal naming si Kuya Rey..ang tunay na DIVO!

Masasabi naming small but terrible yang si Kuya Rey lalo na sa kantahan! Sino nga ba ang hindi nakakaalam ng kantang "O Bayan ng Diyos"… Mga kaibigan, siya po ang magandang tinig na maririnig na nagbigay buhay sa awit na iyan (at siyempre pag napanood naman ninyo yung music video, kami (C5) naman ang mapapanood ninyo).

Si Manoi (iba pang tawag kay Kuya Rey na ang ibig sabihin ay "kuya") ay masasabi kong isang mabuting tao, mabuting kapatid at mapagmahal sa pamilya. Totoong magmahal… Masipag din sa trabaho at fashionista!

Kuya Rey, kahit medyo malayo ka sa’min ngayon at ‘di ka namin nakakasamang kumanta, ‘di ka namin nakakalimutan at uulitin ko, mahal ka namin… Lalo na ako, ang number one fan moh… Hehehe!! Magiingat ka palagi!
