Canto Cinco (C5)

Ron Dator. Sa pangalan pa lamang, mababakas nang isa nang parikala o ironiya ang taong ito. Kung ganong kasimple at straight-forward ang kanyang pangalan, gayon naman kasophisticated and versatile ang kanyang pagkatao.

Sa una, katauhan ng isang analyst ang mahihiwatigan kay Ron…isang taong maraming tanong, maraming sagot, maraming opinyon. Ang sabi ko nga’y pwede na siyang magtayo ng bangko ng mga ideya, takbuhan para sa mga taong nakakapos sa brain power.

Hindi maaaring ikaila ang kanyang matinding pagnanasa na maayos at mapalinaw ang mga bagay-bagay na nasa paligid niya kung kaya sa katagalan, nagmimistula na siyang ‘buzz boy’  Boy Abunda. Inaalam niya ang bawat kwento, ang bawat sikretong pinalalago ng bulung-bulungan, ito upang lalo pang maintindihan at mapalapit sa mga tao sa kanyang paligid.

Paglipas ng panahon, ang isang totoong Ron ang matatangalan ng suklob.  Nakilala ko ang Ron na mahilig tumawa, kumanta, kumain, maglaro ng Ragna, maghanap ng pianito. Ang Ron na napapaos, nacoconscious, napapagod. Dito nagsisimulang sumibol ang pagtitiwala na sumasanga naman sa napakagandang pagkakaibigan. Dito nakilala ko rin ang higit na pormal at seryosong Ron.  Ang Ron na masipag sa trabaho, ang Ron na sumusunod sa curfew, ang Ron na maalaga sa Lolo, ang Ron na nagpapahalaga sa pamilya at kaibigan. Sa pagkakataong ito, unti-unti niyang ibinabahagi ang misteryo ng kanyang pagkatao.  Kumbaga sa isang payaso, ito na ang panahon kung kailan niya tinatanggal ang kanyang maskara at ipinakikilala ang sarili niya sa totoong mundo ng walang pag-aalinlangan.

Si Ron… alinman man sa isanlibo’t isa nyang katauhan ang kanyang isuot, parati pa rin kaming (taga Canto Cinco) magpapasalamat dahil sa likod ng lahat ng iyon, nakilala namin ang isang natatanging kaibigan sa kanya.

I always tease Fr. Jboy with the remark that thankfully, he was not the first Jesuit I met before applying to the pre-novitiate or else i would’ve had second thoughts.  Kidding aside, I am happy that I met him and I am grateful for the gift of his person.  I mean, who else can pull off being naughty, funny, cranky, bossy, artsy, crazy and holy all at the same time?  Seeing him be himself as he works and relates with people is one of the many consolations i have received from the Lord.  in other words, he is one of the persons who makes me want to be a Jesuit.

The name, Voodoo, commonly called Mark by the public, is traceable to an African word for "spirit". Spirit kase minsan lang ito nagpakita sa Canto Cinco, ngayon present "in spirit" na lang siya.

Within the voodoo society, the universe is all one. Each thing affects something else. We are not separate, we all serve as parts of One. Kahit na itong si Mark a.k.a Voodoo ay maraming mga ka-busy-han sa buhay, nagtuturo, nag-aaral, kahit na may iba pang choir na tinuturuan, naghandog pa rin siya ng kanyang time and effort para sa Canto Cinco..(Mark, bumalik ka na!)

MAIN INGREDIENTS:
An ounce of talent in a fragile frame
A cup of competence and responsibility
A tablespoon of charm and friendliness
Served with sweetness at its core

Procedures:
Sift talents and skills together into a mixing bowl. Add a generous amount of competence and responsibility until they are tender. Stir gently just until incorporated. The batter should be more or less slim in shape and there should be a dimpled left and right on the remaining circumference. This takes a little practice, so try a few, and then roll the failures into balls and try again. Drop batter onto pan of charm and friendliness and cook until golden brown. Roll out off the pan onto a warm, inviting serving platter. Garnish with anything in the shade of green. Goes well with doggies and hunnie and a no-no to yucky flying insects. Serves about a class of students upto a group of 30-35 singers. But can serve more if needed. Served best when topped with sweetness.

Overall Rating: Excellent!
